This website chronicles my journey from Glasgow to Edinburgh, not directly of course, that would be silly! But Glasgow to Edinburgh on some of Scotland’s magnificent long distance footpaths; The West Highland Way, The Great Glen Way, The northern Coastal Path and Fife Coastal Path …. and all in a single month.
Of course it is never just the walking. This adventure has taken 5 months in the planning from the moment I signed up to be one of 100 Scottish Businesswomen each committed to raising £1,000 for Breakthrough BreastCancer to taking the first step from the Hotel Indigo.
I hadn’t planned to sign up at all. I’d promised to help with promoting the Breakthrough100 initiative but, since my work as CEO of the3rdimagazine involves working with a community of women and men spread across the length and breadth UK rather than going into an office, I didn’t think I’d be able to take part in the fundraising. Having attended the launch event in Edinburgh and hearing the stories of the women battling with or recovering from breast cancer I decided that I had to at least try to raise £1,000. The question now was how?
One of the things that I get asked to do in my working life is to speak to women and men about my entrepreneurial journey. Over the years I have grown a number of very successful businesses and I am happy to share my experiences in order to inform, inspire and, I hope, entertain other women. Conventionally this takes place in hotels and meeting rooms across the UK, but why not share my life journey while walking? And so this adventure began.
I have had great support from day one from my business partner Annie Casey who has liaised with all of my walking partners, as well as providing day to day support by driving the campervan, cooking, cleaning and generally making sure that all I have to do is walk and talk!
This really quite suits all three of us. Annie is just fabulous at planning and organising and is really brilliant at making sure that everything that should happen does happen.
Lola loves being in the campervan and going for long walks.
And I’m fantastic at wandering around the Scottish countryside talking to anyone who will listen!
And the adventure wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic support of Henderson Roofing Supplies. Brian and the team are funding the diesel for the whole month and considering the distance involved and the return trips to Glasgow for conferences and talks to support Breakthrough100 it is a fantastic, fantastic contribution.
You can find out how to get involved on the HOW YOU CAN HELP page.
And please donate if you can.. THANK YOU
